My Hopes For Aisha and Nex in Winx Season 9

Winx season nine. It’s still happening, right? I don’t follow Winx news anymore, so I’ll just assume nothing’s changed.

If Rainbow is working on season nine, here’s what I hope is ahead for Aisha and Nex. A lot of this will sound familiar, but I won’t stop wishing for it until it happens.

1. They’ll talk about their feelings for each other.

I stand by what I said about this couple’s relationship development in Winx season eight. It was the best: no crazy exes, no matchmaking harps, just two unique individuals trying to get in sync again. That’s how you write a couple.

Something I want to see in Winx season nine is Aisha and Nex sit down, maybe while on a date, and share what they like about each other. I’m sick of the negative assumptions about why he pursued her. No, he didn’t see her as a challenge. He didn’t just think she was pretty, either. And where did you get the idea he just wants to be king of Andros? ?

Rainbow revealed the real reason in books and character descriptions, but I think the Winx fandom needs to hear it from him. (Of course, they might say he’s lying since they don’t trust him. ?)

They also need to know why Aisha loves him. Maybe they’d see what she sees in him if they heard it from her own mouth. Again, Rainbow has already talked about it outside the show, but a dedicated scene might help it stick in the fandom’s minds. Also, it’d be a sweet bonding moment for this couple.

Speaking of sweet, I’d love to see more romantic moments between them, as well as more “power couple” scenes.

2. Nex will get more development (specifically, a backstory).

If the rumor about season nine’s format is true, this might be Nex’s best chance at getting a backstory. Think about it. With 52 episodes (13 minutes apiece), each of the 12 main characters (the Winx and Specialists) could get four focus episodes.

Of course, Bloom and Sky would probably get more, and the Trix might get some, too. So if we give the royal couple, say, six episodes each and set aside six for the Trix, that leaves 34 episodes split among the other ten characters. That’s about three episodes each. Still plenty.

They need as many as they can get, especially the Specialists. But no one needs them more than Nex, and the best use for them is revealing his backstory. It’s the only thing that might humanize him.

I’ll say it again: Rainbow should not give him a tragic backstory. What would be the point? After all, the Winx fandom can’t feel sorry for him anymore. But they can see him as a normal guy, not the wretch they think he is.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep coming up with backstories for him. I like the one I created for my Winx rewrite, as well as the one for my non-Winx fanfic Baby Steps. They’re different, but some of the same themes are there.

3. Aisha will introduce Nex to her parents.

If there’s one thing I didn’t like about the Gorgol arc in Winx season eight, it’s that Nex didn’t interact with Aisha’s parents. Rainbow let Twinkly talk to King Teredor, but not his daughter’s boyfriend? The priorities seem askew here.

Will this happen? Probably not, but I’ll keep dreaming.

4. Aisha and Nex will finally kiss.

It’s another big ask from Winx Club nowadays, but I want to see Aisha and Nex kiss at least once! They’re the only couple who haven’t, and it’s one reason some fans don’t believe they’re in love. The reality is Rainbow toned down the relationships. None of the couples kiss anymore.

Except Bloom and Sky, of course, in Winx season seven. Daphne and Thoren got a kiss, too, but it was at their wedding. That’s all in the last three seasons.

C’mon, Rainbow. Please make an exception for Aisha and Nex. They need it.

Of course, I’d prefer to see them kiss in their original character designs, but beggars can’t be choosers.

5. They’ll still be a couple when the season ends.

Well, duh. ? I’m not as worried anymore, though. Rainbow seems committed to this couple, and they have writers who tell outstanding Aisha/Nex stories. Let’s hope the trend continues.

Final Thoughts

I’ll be honest: I only watch Winx Club for these two now. The story doesn’t interest me anymore, and I don’t care as much about the Magic Dimension as I used to. It’s the characters that matter the most to me, and Aisha and Nex are at the top of my list. They’re my favorite couple, and I look forward to their relationship and adventures every season.

It would be nice to get more development on Aisha and Nex, and while I’m not averse to the newer artstyle as many are (I write it off as in-universe Stella trying to avoid being 30 for as long as possible because she would and in-show time that’s only 5 years from now!) it does take awhile getting used to. Other things i would like to see are more specialist backstory in everyone or rather better yet in the new format (if it is) Have it divided into Four 13 episode segments. 13 for the Winx (and maybe with Roxy finally included this time), 13 for the Specialists, 13 fof the Trix and 13 for Allies (one for Daphne, one for Mirta and Lucy, one for Nova, one for Galatea and Crystal, one for Eldora and Selena, one for Miele, remainder for teachers at each school)

There’s some evidence season 9 is going to be a full reboot, and my hope is kinda that they skip Nabu entirely and introduce Nex. Maybe if they introduce Nex initially and early on, it will help people understand him as a character. I like them as a couple, and I think a reboot is the perfect way to retackle their relationship from a clean slate starting point. What do you think?
