My Hopes For Aisha and Nex in Winx Season 8, Part III (+ An Announcement) *UPDATE*
Last year, I wrote a couple posts (here and here) about my hopes for Aisha and Nex in Winx season eight. But we didn’t know much about it back then. It premieres next week — and a three-episode preview was released on Wednesday — so this is my last chance to make some wishes.
Now that we know more about season eight, here are my hopes for Aisha and Nex. (Note: My other hopes still apply.)
1. Aisha will introduce Nex to her parents.
We know at least a couple episodes take place on Andros, and her parents — King Teredor and Queen Niobe — will appear. This is the perfect opportunity for Aisha to introduce Nex to them. It’s happened in the comics already, so why shouldn’t it happen in the show?
That would also be a great way to develop their relationship. What will her parents think of him? What will he think of them and of Andros? Will he be able to fit in?
Rainbow just did this plot with Timmy in seasons six and seven, but it’s a plot that can safely be recycled. After all, don’t we expect all the guys to meet their potential in-laws someday? I know I do.
2. Orion won’t have anything to do with Nabu.
Some Winx fans believe the new character Orion is really Nabu. One fan even posted what they claim to be Orion’s official backstory. It’s about reincarnation and lost memories. (When asked for a source, they predictably didn’t have one.)
This is typical of the Winx fandom — some of them even thought Roy was Nabu — and it’s awkward when you think about it. Can’t there be young, dark-skinned, named male characters other than Nabu in Winx Club? Why would we assume they’re all the same guy?
And why would they all be love interests for Aisha? Why not another Winx? Or Roxy? Or nobody?
I hope that fan’s “official” story isn’t true. One part may already be disproven, thanks to the preview. The fan said Orion builds a fort that launches bombs. The closest thing we’ve seen is a robot that shoots missiles, but it belongs to Valtor’s sidekick Obscurum. Unless it turns out that Orion made it for him, Orion’s story may have nothing to do with explosives. Oops! ?
The fifth episode of the season is called “Orion’s Secret”, so we’ll find out soon what he’s about. If you ask me, episode five out of 26 is too early for a twist that a character is the reincarnation of a dead fiancé. Plus, it would overshadow Riven’s return a few episodes earlier.
UPDATE: The fan who posted Orion’s “official” backstory has deleted their post.
3. Aisha and Nex will spend a lot of time together during their missions.
Rainbow has hyped the Specialists’ “return” a lot already. (It’s more like a return to relevancy.) They even included them in the “15 Reasons To Watch Winx Club Season 8″ promotion on Instagram. Sounds like the Winx’s boyfriends might play more significant roles this season — or at least help out more than they have in recent seasons.
I won’t hold my breath, though. Rainbow also hyped Roxy during the Winx season seven era, but she didn’t get much screen time. They knew they were just using her as bait to lure fans in.
But if the Specialists are a major part of season eight, Aisha and Nex might have a lot of scenes together. I hope they’ll include a kiss or two. Rainbow mucked up their kiss scene last season. ?
4. Nex will do or say something that finally endears him (and this couple) to the fandom.
I don’t care what he does (as long as he’s still dating Aisha afterwards). He could risk his life for her, support her through a tough situation, or even just say, “I love you”! Something needs to happen that repairs Nex’s and this couple’s reputations.
Nothing Rainbow has tried so far has worked. The moment needs to be meaningful and memorable in order to overcome this mountain of negative opinions. It’s a tall order, but I hope it can still be done. (I talked more about this here.)
5. Aisha and Nex will still be a couple after season eight is over.
Obviously, I want this more than anything. I want Aisha and Nex to be a couple for the rest of the series — and beyond. ❤️
An Announcement
Against my better judgement, I peeked at the first three episodes. The screenshot above is from “A Kingdom of Lumens” (Winx season 8, episode 2). Before the Winx leave for Lumenia, they stop by Redfountain. (By the way, Nex is definitely a Specialist now.) Aisha lays her hands in Nex’s, and — if my knowledge of Italian and French (they’re similar) serves me — she says something about missing him a lot. Awwwww! ?
Later, after the Winx and the Specialists fight Valtor’s golems together, Musa has another spat with Riven. At one point, Nex is holding Aisha’s hands again in the background:
This doesn’t seem like a couple who’s about to break up. In fact, it feels like they’ve grown closer to each other. It’s too early to tell what will happen, of course — except Musa and Riven will probably get back together again — but I feel more optimistic than I have in a couple years.
(Side note: Also, after seeing the new art style in action, I’m starting to love it. It’s different, but it has a charm to it. Change is good.)
Still, I think running this blog while the rest of the season is airing would be too stressful for me. I’m nervous. For that reason, I’m taking a break. Both this blog and Prattler’s Paradise will be on hiatus.
Whether or not I come back depends on what happens in season eight. If all my wishes for Aisha and Nex come true, I’ll feel more comfortable. Otherwise — especially if #5 on this list doesn’t happen — I’ll too upset to keep this blog going.
Let’s hope things go well. If you follow this blog, you’ll know if/when I come back. Goodbye for now. Please keep rooting for Aisha and Nex!
hopefully number 5 does not happen cause rainbow will be wasting so much potential with this couple number 5 happened and i would be sad to see you go i really love this blog
*if*
Do you mean “hopefully number 5 DOES happen”? Because if it doesn’t, then Aisha and Nex will break up. ?
i’ve got an Aisha x Nex dystopia story in my fanfic idea pipeline
Interesting. ?
yeah i’m even giving them a us road trip story
right but i can understand your reasoning for not running the blog while season 8 is on
Yeah. I’m already nervous about what’ll happen. I’ll be curious, yet I don’t wanna know. It’s annoying. ?
yeah i’m curious about the new sirenix and how its gotten
i’m curious how Nex could comfort Aisha if the Winx suffered a heavy defeat
I think he would try to cheer her up more so than comfort her. He’d remind her of her brave and strong she is — something like that.
hmm good idea
I’ve only been able to watch one of the episodes so far (Rai Play kept crashing on me for some reason) and I understand Italian very little, but Aisha and Nex seemed pretty normal in that episode, so I’m assuming (and hoping) that Rainbow won’t do anything stupid. Also, I completely understand your hiatus. Take your time, and come back when you need to. <3
Thank you! ? Yes, Aisha and Nex’s relationship seems solid, and Nex has integrated well into Sky’s squad. Things look good so far. Let’s hope they stay that way.
It’d be cool if each Winx had a constellation connected to her powers. I don’t know enough about astronomy tomake recommendations, though. Maybe Ursa Major for Aisha? That constellation’s associated with Artemis, goddess of awesome warrior women.
Maybe each Winx could have a constellation related to a Greek/Roman god. Some ideas:
Bloom: Hestia (goddess of hearth/fire) or Zeus (head god of everything, especially lightning)
Stella: Apollo (god of the Sun; has a similar personality to Stella) or Aphrodite (goddess of love & beauty)
Flora: Aphrodite, Demeter (goddess of harvest/nature), or Persephone (goddess of flowers/the underworld; somewhat similar personality to Flora)
Musa: Apollo? (He’s also the god of music) I don’t really have a good one for her
Tecna: Athena (goddess of wisdom and battle strategy) or Hephaestus (god of the forge/inventing)
Aisha: Artemis, Athena, or Poseidon (god of the ocean, but he was a really trash person and I don’t want him associated with Aisha)
I literally had a fan story idea like this before Winx season 8 was announced. Instead of creating creatures like the Lumens, I had it so the stars and constellations themselves were alive. Each realm had a guardian constellation, and the Winx received their powers. I’d matched up Bloom with Draco, Aisha with Aquarius, and Musa with Lyra, but I wasn’t sure about the other Winx yet.
I guess that one doesn’t even get three stars….but don’t send me to the nearest black hole either. ?
I also wonder if the constellations of the Winx are going to relate to the magic this season.
Aisha & Nex should stay that way, together and maybe he has a ring somewhere to give her? Also Orion? How much constellation is the fandom hunting for with Nabu? He could be a goon of Valtor’s or Roxy’s love interest for all we know. Manuel is nice, but he seems like another Brandon to me…and that might make both Stella and Brandon uncomfortable if Manuel was brought into the show.
Really, Will? Really? You can never help yourself, can you? ?
Yeah, Orion being Nabu would be random and silly. I wonder if that fan realizes that Orion fits into the star theme, which makes it even more likely that he’s a one-season character. There’s something about a white fox at the end of the season. Maybe he’s hunting it or something. Or maybe he’s a pop star. I don’t know, but honestly, I don’t even think he is a love interest.
As for Manuel, I agree with you. He seemed like a nice guy, but he wasn’t unique at all. Even the Winx said he looked like Brandon. Plus, if I remember correctly, he was a mechanic. Timmy’s got that covered.
When i saw Aisha and Nex holding hands, i fangirled so hard ☺️ I felt so warm inside ☺️ I guess everyone in the house was like: What’s happening to her? ?
Also, take as much time you need away from yor blog (To be honest, keeping track of all the Winx news on my blog can be tiring aswell ?).
I don’t think Rainbow will break them up. There’s no reason for them to do that so I wouldn’t worry too much (I know, it’s easier said than done).
Take your time. Being healthy is important.
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement.
And thank you for your email. ❤
Three great things happening today: Winx season 8 debuts on the Rai Yoyo channel, Winx season 4 has its tenth anniversary as it debuted exactly ten years ago (how convenient that season 4 and 8 both start on the same day only ten years apart…hope that means sonething good for the atory of the eight season), and the Game of Thrones finale starts today.
i’m trying to think of what Nex would desire the most
I don’t know if we know enough about Nex to say that about him. Often in stories, a character’s deepest desire will be rooted in their backstory/childhood (ex: Aisha was sheltered as a child, so her greatest desire is to have friends and be free to adventure). There isn’t any canon knowledge of his backstory to use here. However, if this is for a fic, and you’ve given him a backstory in it, I would recommend using that to help you figure out the finer parts of his personality, such as his deepest desire.
That’s definitely true, but I think if we consider his behavior, we can at least guess. Nex has a tendency to show off. Why would someone do that? Because they wanna be liked.
It might sound strange to say out loud, but I think that is Nex’s strongest desire based on what we know about his character. He wants people’s attention and to be desired and admired by them. But have you noticed what happens when he goes too far and makes people angry? He feels disappointed and self-corrects, often immediately.
His methods (and personality) are abrasive and bold, but he ultimately doesn’t wanna be hated. It bothers him. The question is what is the root of this? Is he just cocky (like the fandom believes), or is there more to it? Personally, I think this insecurity would (or should) be based on his backstory, but sadly Rainbow will probably never give him one.
By the way, this is one of the ways Nex is different from Aisha. She’s also showy, but it’s not because she wants other people’s praise. Instead, it’s an expression of her freedom. This is a girl who was told throughout childhood that — to use Stella’s words — “a princess should be seen, not heard”. Now that Aisha isn’t trapped in her palace anymore, she’s allowed to do the things she loves and to speak her mind.
That’s why I don’t understand why the fandom thinks she needs a quiet guy will basically tame her. Do they want her to regress to how she was as a child? ? She was as tame as she could possibly be back then! The first person who changed her life wasn’t someone who tried to tame her. It was someone (Anne) who taught her how to be free.
dang it
Hey there. Happy Easter to all the people active on this blog.
Thank you! Sorry I didn’t see this comment until now. ?
do you count Aisha having to save Nex form a tight spot that he end up in as time together?
I’d say so, especially since it shows that she cares about him.
*him*
yeah and the answer to how she saves is tomorrow
I looked at the episode. The Aisha X Nex scenes were adorable, but whether they help change people’s minds about this couple or about Nex remains to be seen. We know how stubborn this fandom is. So far, it seems like they still refuse to give these two (or Nex) a chance, which means I was right: it might be too late. Aisha and Nex need a better, more fitting story and a new, unbiased audience.
yeah the fandom may be too stubborn but i do really love those scenes between the 2
Me too. ❤️
yeah i wonder if Nex has magic?
No, but he doesn’t need it. It’s a shame that Rainbow hasn’t developed this world well enough to show that non-magic beings are just as essential as magic beings. For example, the fact that Nabu seemed special just for having magic is because of bad world-building. In other fantasy series, character classes are balanced so that no class seems superior to another.
The original dynamic of the Winx and Specialists’ team showed this. The Winx handle magic-related issues and provided support for the Specialists. In exchange, the Specialists helped using their non-magic talents (monster knowledge, physical combat, etc.), especially when the Winx’s magic failed. Long story short, Nex is playing the role he was meant to play. He doesn’t need magic to be helpful to Aisha and the other Winx.
good point there
umm spoilers i honestly love the Aisha and Nex moment in ep 8 since it shows they know each other very well it was a beautifully written scene ???
so we now know Orion is not Nabu
well i guess not even lethal sleep inducing coral can stop Aisha and Nex
The official Italian Winx Facebook page just posted this about one of the recent episodes (translation by Michael’s Winx Club):
“…for the most romantic fairies, there will be many super tender moments between Aisha and Nex.”
*fangirling intensifies*
I love how Rainbow isn’t backing down here. Surely, they know the fandom hates this couple and a lot of people would complain, but the writers didn’t throw Aisha and Nex away. Instead, they showcased the best aspects of their relationship: supportiveness, teamwork, and affection. ❤️
Yeah, it seems like Rainbow isn’t planning on breaking them up, which is wonderful. 🙂 It doesn’t solve every problem, but it is a start.
I wonder what the overall fandom reaction has been. Probably not positive, given how resistant they are to change and re-evaluation of their beliefs, but maybe some more people will support Aisha and Nex now. And maybe this has stopped the Nex hate bandwagon.
oh i can’t wait for that
Have you read my newest Layla & Nex post? I talk about their relationship connection and symbolism to Greek Mythology.
I did. I need to read it again, though.
Didn’t you liked it?
I did. It was interesting, but I couldn’t process all of it at the time I read it. That’s why I’m saying I need to read it again.
Ok
