Winx Rewrite: “Wings: A ‘Winx Club’ Retelling”

“Moving together in harmony makes everyone stronger!” said Flora. “It’s the first rule they teach at Alfea!”

“That’s true!” said Musa. “Also worked against the witches’ spell during the party, and I feel that we’re a special group!”

“Maybe we should do something to never forget it!” said Tecna. “Give ourselves a name, for example! Something that will unite us all!”

The other fairies agreed, so Stella tossed out suggestions. The Fantastic Five? No. The Magic Girls? The Magix Girls? Too generic. The Fairy Friends? Awful.

But not as awful as Tecna’s idea. “Or how about… Super Little Fairies? …What’s so funny?! It could work, couldn’t it?”

“We need something that reflects what we want to be,” said Bloom, watching a pair of butterflies dance among the roses. “Beautiful and delicate like these butterflies, for example. We, too, have wings when we transform.”

“That’s it!” said Stella. “We’ll call ourselves…Wings Club! What do you girls think? Wings… It’s short and effective!”

“Uhm…it could really work!” said Musa.

“But what about the butterflies?” said Flora. “Butterflies like flowers… and I like butterflies!”

Bloom crouched in a dirt patch and sketched the word “wings” with a twig, replacing the “gs” with an “x” that looked like a perched butterfly. “All we have to do is write it like this… Have a look! We can write it ‘Winx’! Winx Club!”

Why I Have Wings

That scene was from Winx comic #3: “The Boys From Red Fountain”. The naming of the Winx Club happened differently in the show, but I like this version more. Not only does it explain where Bloom got the word “Winx”, but it also highlights one of the most important symbols in the series: wings.

A fairy’s wings are everything to her. As her magic grows, or she discovers alternative forms of magic, she gains new wings and new powers. Enchantix wings contain fairy dust, an energy that can break any dark spell. Tracix wings let her see into the past. Sirenix wings are like fins, so she can swim in the deepest oceans.

Wings are also beautiful, like Bloom said. The “charm” and “enchant” in “Charmix” and “Enchantix” mean more than casting spells. They speak to a fairy’s allure as she flutters about like a butterfly.

The most despicable thing you can do to a fairy is steal and break her wings. That’s why the Winx recoiled when they learned the Wizards of the Black Circle tore off the Earth Fairies’ wings to take their magic. But as Morgana said, “Wings grow back again. Slowly, but they do grow back.” You could say they also symbolize a fairy’s resilience.

In my Winx rewrite, I want to focus on the idea of having wings. What does that mean figuratively? What do wings represent to each character, including the guys, even if they don’t have them?

These will be the characters’ themes: what they want and what matters most to them. For example, to Aisha, wings represent freedom and escape. Her parents dictated her entire life, from how she acted to what she wore. Now she hopes she can finally do whatever she wants and go wherever she wants to.

For Nex, wings represent community and belonging — being part of the flock. I want to emphasize his sociability, something that differentiates him not only from Riven (since he unfortunately needs it) but also from Aisha. It’ll show how Nex complements her.

So I’m calling my rewrite Wings: A Winx Club Retelling. Not the most creative name — maybe someone has used it already — but I like it, and it reflects my vision for the show.

By the way, I’ve decided the rewrite the entire series. Starting in the middle would mean circumventing foundational issues with the plot, especially Bloom’s backstory. It’s better to rebuild from the ground up. I’ll take pieces from every season, World of Winx, the movies, and the comics and shape them into something new.

I started reworking the history of the Magic Dimension yesterday. Boy, has it gotten wonky! The Great Dragon created the universe. No, the Sparx did! Fairies came from the Legendarium World and settled throughout the realms…but they all came from Graynor. And Arcadia was the first fairy. I mean, Clariol! Wait, she wasn’t real, was she?

Sigh. What a mess. It makes sense to have contradictory myths about the creation of the world, but we know Rainbow did it by accident. ?‍♀️

This will be a challenging but fun project. Stay tuned for updates!

I’m so hyped! I’ll have a PROPER Winx rewrite (not the whole “edgier and scarier=better” crap I hate) to keep me busy before Season 9!
And Nex and the guys having the Wing representation too? Awesome! ?
Will Diaspro/Sky/Bloom mess be rewritten too, or removed?
Also I know I already mentioned I hated S2 Charmix, but now when I think about your idea about the wings meaning/representating the Winx’s goals, I think Rainbow should have something relate to THAT instead. Sad how the role of wings have been reduced in Winx Club.

I ALSO prefer calling “Fairy” form Charmix but the problem is that it infuriates people for bizzare reasons, despite some Winx fans on YT call it. I wonder if Riven (or even MuRi? idk) will finally be decent in that rewrite?

Why wait until season 3 on that with Muri? Just have them never get together at the end of season 2 in the first place! I mean if Aisha stayed single then, Musa can too. That would avoid pointless drama all the way around.

Also on the whole Winx/Charmix thing? The fandom says “When Faragonda said that the modern fairy was redefined by Winx” she meant the form not the people because “it showed the Winx destiny as superheroes and she can do that because Alfea is the most prestigious school.”

Last time I checked the Winx didn’t get selected to be superheroes, it was a “we are we choose to be” as Morgana mentions in season 4. There wasn’t really any destiny for anyone to start with, but this fandom argues otherwise. Not even Bloom had a destiny. I mean when we first met Bloom she just wanted to fly and learn about magic. We didn’t even know anything more than she did which does make the show more fun. Especially when Stella shots down Bloom’s concept of fairies (Mythix designs and again i say Aisha’s is the closest to a legendary design, but still looks like whatever would be in Bloom’s book) with her scepter.

Wait, so the fandom even argues about how Winx became warriors?! Wow I can’t believe the same people who loved old seasons much make misconceptions like these like they never watched them. The Winx just wanted to be fairies, study at Alfea and fly and had NO IDEA about the Dragon Flame ?! Same with misconceptions about Aisha debunked in that blog- people kept claiming Aisha was like in WoW, despite she was never aggresive and only went away, was afraid of darkness and even cried- and all of this happened during that praised era!
By the way, I wish Riven was like Timmy. No, I don’t mean technical boy. Tecna and Timmy had good relationship (at least to me) so if Riven was like this in season 1 INSTEAD of clinging to the badboy stereotype, Winx could be less of a mess than it was back in the day.
Kinda random but it was funny to me how the Winx fandom blames Nick for plotholes and writing in Winx because inconsistent writing and things having no sense existed SINCE VERY FIRST SEASON.

“their reconciliation always comes from something shallow and cliché like Riven giving her presents or saving her from a monster Or the two of them playing a magical matchmaking harp”
See? THIS is why I disagreed when a Winx fan I was mentioning several times, when he claimed that Winx “had only great values” which isn’t the case at all- Winx was, and STILL is, a weird(unintentional?) mixture of good values/meanings, AND bad messages to the kids (MuRi, the way how Rainbow “solved” couples’ dramas INSTEAD of make them just talk), all that in one show!
It may sound cliche but if Rainbow REALLY wanted the Winx to have boyfriends then why won’t make Riven different or overcoming his whatever-made-him-like-that? People can keep mentioning mother all they want but people usually TRY to overcome mistrusts even if it’s hard. Riven? He didn’t overcome ANYTHING, he’s still the same questionable Specialist from season1, and he still saw everything as a competition in Season 6 like many years ago in Season1- see the pattern? His character DID NOT GROW, just like Sky’s! And yes, Sky didnt grow up either, he still is that prince-charming who STILL falls for Diaspro’s tricks and can’t solve his problems with Bloom properly. I remember when Sky had different hairstyle and lost his memory in Season 5, I really hope there will be character growth… but NOOOOPE

The things this fandom comes up with sometimes. Also…Bloom’s Riven roast in “Day of the Rose” as provided by Liza Jacqueline will never get old…she really turned up the burn’s heat to third degree. I’m actually surprised that Bloom’s roast was not retained in the Nick dub at all. Either version of it…guess they didn’t want Riven learning early on “mistreating Bloom leads to frying pans.”

Sky…he should have been punished for his actions…also does the phrase “don’t play with fire, you’ll get burned!” mean anything to him?

Sky seems do not learn ANYTHING because he still does the same things and deals with Diaspro even after 4 seasons. I know that Winx lacks character growth but Sky’s lack of it is way too obvious. I think if the Specialists had different look types (just like the Winx, they need it too, from what I see) AND character growth and not “just being handsome guys being ruined by precarious hero costumes ever made, and just being for the Winx” the 1-5 seasons could be close to top-tier. Season 5 could be my favourite but NONE of them are my favourites because all of them contain obnoxious flaws that made no sense. (Especially Season 3 and4) Even Season 5, when Flora/Helia/Krystal drama had no sense and it lasted and entire season, instead of making those three just SIT AND TALK TO EACH OTHER ABOUT IT, and honestly, like normal people. I shouldn’t have disliked Krystal back in 2012/3, because the WRITERS twisted those three, I feel bad for noticing it earlier.
Oh, and the best part: King Neptune took NO consequences for blatant favorizing! And the show never explained why Tritannus was ignored/hated!

King Neptune actually didn’t show favoritism. We were told he picked Nereus because Nereus would make a better king, then we were shown why. Tritanus is the same type of person as Riven. Do you really want someone like Riven running a particular place? I certainly wouldn’t. Nereus on the other hand is more like Timmy who takes the best course of action for everyone. I would personally prefer a Timmy to be in charge over a Riven.

To be honest I’m scared of comparisons to Riven because of Nex fiasco- I mean, where did they get this idea that Nex is like Riven? If the fandom remembers Riven well then why couldn’t they compare his scenes to Nex’s scenes in seasons 6 and 7? Yep, they have nothing in common.
Also, I have to wonder: why are comparisons to Riven are usually painting him as positive? Is being rude and snarky and throwing shade for no reason and mishandling relationship positive these days?
“Riven in charge” please NO. This will be terrible because it will only enable him and Riven will only consider this “a triumph” or a “proof that he is better than Blonde Prince Charming” or whatever crap. I already can imagine it ?

I wonder if Musa considers asking Roxy to turn Riven into a mule…oh wait…he already is one…no need for him to take the Pinnochio vacation.
