Winx Season 8: “Into the Depths of Andros” in English
Posted On July 15, 2019
The VK account MagiyaWinx has finally posted the English dub of “Into the Depths of Andros” (S8, EP08), the first half of the Winx 8 Sirenix arc. Thank you to SpiderBraids for letting me know!

The English script is different from the Italian translation, but it’s not bad. Pay attention to what Aisha calls herself and Nex near the end of the episode. It caught me by surprise. What do you think of it?
Power Couple Team Up! =) Love his line “Aisha needs me!”. I just don’t like Obscurum as a villain. The next episode is better though, “The light of Gorgol” is the best episode of the first half of season 8. Im not crazy about their voices but I think they’re okay, they sound sometimes worse, sometimes better.
Yes, power couple! Interesting… ?
Yeah, the “Aisha needs me!” line was cute, but I really liked his line after Aisha said she can take care of herself: “I know that, but I wanna be by your side anyway.” The delivery was good, too, better than most of his romantic lines in this arc.
Obscurum gets a chuckle out of me now and then, but yeah, he’s not a good villain. He’s more competent than Brafilius at least, but that’s easy. Brafilius was a bumbling idiot.
“The Light of Gorgol” is the stronger and more interesting of the two episodes, but I like the whole arc overall. Of course, I’m glad Aisha and Nex got some focus in this season. Their voices are…sigh. Elinor Vanderburg is obviously a new voice actor, so I’m trying not to be too hard on her. But sometimes she doesn’t put enough emotion (or any) into Aisha’s lines.
Marc Thompson got on my nerves a little in this arc. Sometimes, he slipped into this lighter, less raspy, more bearable voice for Nex that I wish he’d stay with. But a second later, he’d add some meathead back into it. It really killed some of the romantic moments because it made Nex sound stupid.
Can we please make #PowerCoupleTeamUp a thing? Because it needs to be a thing.
Also, I really loved Nex’s “I wanna be by your side anyway” line. I remember that he said sonething different in the Italian dub. I don’t recall exactly what it was, but I know that afterwards I thought, “Oh goodness, the Nabu fans are gonna take this out of context, aren’t they?” But the English line was much sweeter, while still flowing well with the scene and Nex’s character. In other words, the English script writers made a good call. 🙂

#PowerCoupleTeamUp! ?
Yeah, I see what you mean about Nex’s line being better in English. In Italian, he says something like, “I wanna be around you regardless.” It doesn’t feel as romantic, at least not to someone who isn’t fluent in Italian. Maybe the implications are sweeter than it sounds.
Either way, “I wanna be by your side anyway” is adorable. It also makes his line at the end of “The Light of Gorgol” sweeter: “I’ll always be there for you, even when you don’t want me to be.” He’s expressing how much he loves being with her and wants to support her no matter what.
Also, we know how Aisha gets, even in these episodes, when she’s stressed. She isolates herself and puts on her “I can take care of myself” act, when that’s really when she needs other people the most. Nex recognizes that about her. That’s why he stays with her anyway and encourages her to let people help her. I just love it! ??
Don’t worry. I’ve seen the new videos. ? I’ve put the links in the blog menu already.
Power Couple…I like it a lot. Another name for them could be “most underrated couple in cartoon history because most fans in the fandom are unbelievably stupid” but Power Couple is more positive and way shorter.
Seems like the voice actors are starting to get on our “train” as well. Very good. We need every help we can get.
The voice actors? How so? You just mean that line itself?
As I understood, the voice actors added that Power Couple line, hence my comment about them being on our side.
Wait, really? ?
Did they add the line or have I misunderstood something? I’m kind of confused right now. ?
The line was different in Italian, but I don’t think they added it, per se. Besides, Rainbow animates the show for the English script, so it’s possible they wrote it first. If that’s the case, “Power couple team up?” was the original line.
I see. Well, either way it’s cool that they are getting some screen time together. Could be a lot better with more romance and more kissing though. But I have learnt to tone down my expectations over the years and Iginio doesn’t seem to be the romantic type of guy so that’s – probably – the reason why there isn’t any damn kiss between these two.
Actually, I think it’s because Rainbow lowered the target audience. The early seasons had a lot more romance and kissing, but since then Bloom and Sky seem to be the only couple allowed to kiss. ?
Yeah, which sucks. Other cartoons catering to an even lower audience have more romance than Winx. But then again, Italians are very conservative while other countries are more liberal in terms of romantic plots (and LGBTQ+ representation as well).
Apparently, Italians only have 3 ratings for TV shows: T (means “tutty” for “all ages”), VM14 (14 and up) and VM18 (18 and up). Seems like too much kissing in cartoons could earn them a VM14 rating and of course, Rainbow doesn’t want that.
I remember the “you have entered the no-kissing zone” post from unadinoi and that kisses were cut for Australian TV. Well, they now don’t have to cut anything. Another reason why I miss the previous seasons. And it’s not like kissing automatically leads to more than that, so I don’t see the problem there (sometimes it does lead to more but only when you let it happen in your shows and so far the innuendos in Winx haven’t been too mature).
I wish we – meaning people who actually care about storylines and don’t pander to the audience – could run the things we love.
