Winx Season 8: Acting on Impulse, Pt. II

At the beginning of “Into the Depths of Andros” (Winx Club season 8, episode 8), Nex advised Aisha not to focus on memorizing her speech by heart. She ignored him and tried anyway…but failed.

Later, after she saved Nex from being crushed in “The Light of Gorgol” (Winx Club season 8, episode 9), she told him, “I just acted on impulse. That’s what I do best.” She may have been referring to the rescue, but this also foreshadowed her re-do speech at the end. Instead of reciting pre-written lines, she spoke from her heart.

Following her instincts is what Aisha does best. Nex probably knows this about her, which is why he encouraged her not to learn the speech. Not only was she stressing herself out, but she was also holding herself back. When she expressed her feelings instead, her words were more powerful and meaningful.

Aisha’s tendency to play it by ear fits with the meaning of her name: “life”. Life is unpredictable. You can plan ahead all you want, but quoting the poet Robert Burns: “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” To handle the unexpected, sometimes we need to be flexible and spontaneous.
