Always Disappointed
I have days when I wanna venture out into the Winx fandom and try to find something — anything — positive about Aisha and Nex.
Maybe someone drew some new fan art.
Maybe someone wrote a post about them.
Maybe there’s a new video.
But every time I look, all I find is more hate or nothing at all.
Sometimes, it seems like the better Aisha and Nex’s relationship gets, the more the fandom hates them.
They can never be accepted no matter what they do.
I’m trying to teach myself not to expect anything from the fandom anymore.
It’s too late. They’ve already proven they’ll never change their minds about this couple.
This blog and the Aisha/Nex Instagram page are the only places on the Internet where they’ll ever be celebrated like the other couples.
For that reason, I’ll do my best to keep this blog active and full of content.
Money has been tight lately, so I haven’t been able to afford new fan art commissions.
But as soon as that changes (which may be soon), I’ll start commissioning as much as I can.
As for the second half of season eight, I’m not sure I wanna watch it.
I feel confident now that Aisha and Nex will stay together. But it’s bittersweet knowing that whatever happens — no matter how beautiful and meaningful it is — the fandom will still despise them and wish they’d break up.
The Sirenix arc gave me hope that things might change, but they haven’t.
At least I have the people who followed me to this blog and continue to read it.
Thank you. You don’t know how much it means to me.
One day I’ll learn how to draw. I’m sure there are a few artists who would draw Nex and Layla for free, you just have to find them.
As for the fandom…the days where they have been tolerant towards others are gone, just like the good old websitel
I don’t wanna ask anyone in the fandom to draw them. The problem is everyone else will treat it as an endorsement of the couple. If the artist doesn’t like them, then not only will they hate drawing them, but they’ll also probably add a disclaimer: “I only drew Aisha and Nex because someone asked me to. I prefer Aisha and ________.”
If the artist does like Aisha and Nex, then the fandom will bash them and the drawing.
Either way, it doesn’t end well. That’s why I’ve only been commissioning artists who have either never watched Winx Club or don’t watch it anymore. That way, they won’t have an opinion on the couple one way or another, and the fandom will (hopefully) leave them alone.
“That’s why I’ve only been commissioning artists who have either never watched Winx Club…”
Sadly, non-Winx fans likely won’t be interested in drawing anything about Winx (from my experience).
I’ll ask the few people I know but I can’t promise anything.
I might try to draw some more art soon. Nex’s hair is just…difficult, and sometimes I get frustrated when I draw them because of that. But I’ll try to not let that stop me. <3
I’m sorry you feel that way but you shouldn’t let people’s opinions on Nex and Aisha stop you from enjoying a show. Regardless of what people want or think, I doubt rainbow is gonna break them up cuz people in the fandom don’t like them. Celebrate them being together, enjoy the show for you not for other people’s opinions. You can’t make people dislike Nabu or Roy and like Nex but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the show. I hope you find the happiness in the show you’re looking for and thanks for posting always ?
It’s just hard to watch something I love get crapped on all the time, and to not have that many people to enjoy them with. ?
This is just frustraiting. Aisha shipping wars just spoiled the whole thing didn’t it?
On an un-related note I actually had a surprisingly pleasant conversation with an ends at Sirenix fan recently. They said that they don’t have the “It’s new therefore it sucks” mentality as the majority of the fandom has, but rather “it sucks because Bloomix downgraded everything and Butterflix just made it worse, but do find the good in the new seasons”…which is a different, but refreshing opinion to see…too bad more fans don’t share that sentiment…if they did…well Cosmix has the most refreshing plot-line in years…too bad now anything after Cosmix actually will be a downgrade (that’s the problem with Space-based seasons in any franchise. Space is just too big…just take a look at what happened to Power Rangers when they did that.)
Doesn’t shipping ruin most fandoms? That’s what I always heard before I got into one, and now that I’ve experienced it, I understand why. I’m glad I was never active in the Digimon fandom. Looking from the outside, they seem pretty happy. But they went through a rough period because of the Sora shipping wars (Tai X Sora vs. Matt X Sora).
I can understand the “Bloomix downgraded everything” idea. You would think having the power of the Dragon Flame would make the Winx practically invisible. Then again, if that were true, Bloom wouldn’t even need Enchantix. She could have stayed a Charmix fairy and still kicked everyone’s butts.
I suppose it does and those meddling kids celebrating their golden anniversary this year probably defined the ship wars in the first place (i.e. who should Daphne date? Shaggy or Fred? I’m on the Shaggy side of things because it’s kind of Popular girl likes the geek thing, and vice versa if Fred dates Velma, because Velma like poor Tecna is so under rated…despite Velma having the nerve to tell Dracula off!)
Yeah, Bloomix did have that disadvantage of the how the Dragon Flame functioned…they turned Bloom into a giant battery when instead of Bloom just generating magic for the Winx to use, they should have been able to generate it themselves even while still keeping their respective powers. Maybe changing the Dragon Flame to have limitations is so that Bloom doesn’t come off as a deity when she isn’t. Powerloss immunity and a cool suit of armor, well that’s decent, but why not actually allow the Winx to do the things they all learned about it in addition? I mean there was tons of creative magic uses that could have happened if they all had been able to use what they learned. Flora would make good use of the more medical aspects for instance. Also yeah…no matter what form Bloom’s in…she’s gonna kick the enemy’s sorry butts…especially if like Selina they’re prepared to face mutually assured destruction…and by mutually assured destruction? I mean going after Stella. That must be why the villains try going after Flora, Musa or Aisha instead when they don’t go after Bloom…Flora was a close call…too close…and we saw Aisha’s “Selina, you snake” face in 6×26. If they go after Stella as we saw in season 1….Dragon Fury? That’s Bloom on a good day. I’d hate to see her on a bad one…even more than I’d hate to see Diaspro when she’s angry beyond all reason.
Well, I’m sorry about it, but, you know, if the Aisha/Nex haters read your blog they probably will open up to new possibilities about their fave water fairy. I never payed much attention to them since I preferred the first 5 something seasons, but I think that I never hated them either. After reading your blog, I’m more open minded about them even though I always thought that people ship whoever they want. Anyway, I think that if there is more Aisha and Nex content on Internet people will warm up to them and get used to/ love them like you, I and many people on this blog. I think not only the problem is the fandom’s obsession with Nabu or even Roy, but also the fact that they don’t see positive posts/ any posts about this couple. People will often go with the flow, and if the flow says “No to Aisha/Nex, then not many people will stand up to them like you. Anyway, great job!
